The gold medal for the 25th Jubilee of the reign of Charles I / Medalia din aur emisă cu ocazia Jubileului de 25 de ani de domnie a Regelui Carol I

The purpose of this article is to present the golden medal issued in 1891 for the celebration of 25 years of reign of Charles I of Romania. This medal, designed by Anton Scharff, an Austrian sculptor, was made in bronze, silver and gold, but the golden type was not known in the academic field. In 2010 the personal archive of the Romanian numismatist Octavian Iliescu was donated to the National History Museum of Romania and in the letters archive I found some old photos with this golden medal, which was kept in the private collection of Aurelian Răuţă. Also, through the study of the sales market of heritage objects I was able to find that in 2012, in an auction, a similar medal was sold.
