Abstract
After the denationalization process initiated in Transylvania, following the Austro-Hungarian dual pact, the Romanian memorial writings, after Avram Iancu’s death and the revolution years of 1848-1849, proved the gradual formation of a national conscience. The events of the revolution are filtered and reinterpreted according to the social and political practice and are demystified, made more accessible and accurate, establishing causes, presenting the facts and assigning blame to the parties involved. Until the Great Union the memory of Avram Iancu, the leader of the Transylvania revolution, is preserved untouched by Romanians, through their writing and acts against Hungarian attacks. The events commemorating Avram Iancu are fairly constant until the Great Union and become a custom there after.
