Abstract
The article presents the results of investigation of digital dermatoglyphics of men and women belonging to Boyko ethnic group living in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. The objective of our research was to study complex ridge finger patterns of male and female population belonging to Boyko ethnic group for further use of the data in the practice of forensics in identifying an unknown person. Research materials involved dermatoglyphic finger parameters of men (112) and women (78) at the age of 19-55 living in Ivano-Frankivsk region and belonging to Boyko ethnic group. Prints of ridge finger patterns were obtained by scanning them with scanner Futronic’s FS80 USB2.0 Fingerprint Scanner using the program ftrScanApiEx.exe. with subsequent transfer of data to a personal computer and improved by converting screen print to vector based drawing object using the algorithm VeriFinger 6.6/MegaMatcher 4.4 Identification Technology Algorithm. As a result of the study dermatoglyphic phenotypes characteristic of men and women belonging Boyko ethnic groups were isolated for the first time;? differences between papillary patterns of middle and proximal phalanges of men and women were found and criteria for gender differentiation within specified ethnic ?group were developed: women had the high frequency of type Lr patterns and heterolateral symmetry by Lr + Lu type on all digits of both hands; patterns by Ad and S type were predominant for middle and proximal phalanges. Men were characterized by the high frequency of W, LW type patterns, absense of patterns by Lr type on I, III, IV and V digits of both hands; patterns by L, Ap, Ap / L, Dn type and ulnar orientation of patterns were predominant for middle and proximal phalanges.
