Abstract
The objective of study is to introduce the results of the applications of the project named “We are Learning about the Soil with Tipitop and His Friends” project, a project which fur times organized within the scope of the project group activities of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) Schools of Nature and Science (4004). The aim of the project is to introduce 5-6 years old pre-school children to soil and concepts related to soil. The sample group of the project comprised of children between the ages of 5 and 6, attending the kindergarten of primary schools, affiliated to the National Ministry of Education, located at districts of lower socioeconomic level in the province of Denizli, their parents and teachers. There are activities like art,Turkish language, science and nature designed according to children’s developmental characteristics in order to support children’s learning by doing and experiencing and having fun with various teaching methods such as drama,plays, excursions-observations,experiments in the project. Different types of activities were used to support the multi- dimentional development of children. The attraction of activities and their stimulating effects to make children to ask questions were emphasized. A second post-test will be repeated after two weeks from the first post- test to see if the knowledge of children is resistent to be forgotten in time. The teachers and the parents of children will be given information about the project before the project will be started. The activities which are designed will be presented to children by educators under the supervision of guides. Last project began in September 2013.
