Abstract

The first time, in Ottoman, when the resolution of the problems faced by women in our country is Tanzimat period (1839-1976) in which also intense westernization activities were seen. From constitutional regime that the Ottoman crossed to parliamentary system in 1876 till the first years of the republic a male-dominated political structure has always existed. New political regime built by the proclamation of the Republic has also brought with it new political rights for women. In Turkey, the rights to participate in the first municipal elections in 1930, to be headman in 1933 and to be elected as deputies and selection in 1934 were given to women. By these new given rights, women have the opportunity to represent their will in political field. The crucial difference between general elections in 1935 and the previous elections is that the women participated in it. Women’s participation has taken the form on both the selection and selected. Indeed, as a result of the elections, for the first time 17 women deputies had the authority to represent in Parliament. Taking women into political life, the new regime have taken a decision appropriate to its structure. This helps further issue of women’s representation in political structures. Today, the power of representation of women in politics in Turkey are both discussed and thought to be small. One of the women participated in the political life is Nermin NEFTÇİ’ (Hayriye Ayşe Nermin NEFTÇİ) who is Muş’s first and only woman member of parliament and also the first woman vice-chairpersons of parliament and the first female Minister of Culture. The aim of our work is to give information about Nermin NEFTÇİ’s (who was selected deputy in two periods (1965-1973) in Mus) studies in parliament and the news about her in that period’s newspapers.
