SCIENCES LEARNING ANXIETY SCALE: VALIDATION STUDY

Abstract

Science Learning Anxiety scale was developed by the researcher in order to measure students' anxiety regarding to learning Science. The purpose of this study is to examine validity and reliability of the Science and Technology Learning anxiety scale. 844 students in 6th, 7th and 8th grade participated in the study. 14% of the students were attending (n=115) sixth grade, 40’% of them (n=344) seventh and 46% (n=395) eighth grade.It was interviewed 15 student about Science learning anxiety while creating the item pool. Exploratory factor analysis was made to present the factor structure of the scale. The scale is formed of 3 sub-dimensions according to factor analysis results. The scale includes 19 items. While Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient is determined to be 85 for the scale it was determined to be, 88 for the content and teaching dimensions, 75 for avoidance dimension and, 63 for the dimension of anxiety regarding participation in lessons. According to results obtained, the scale can be used.
