Abstract
Many Kurdish and foreign reserchears, writers, proets and philosophers have worked on Kurdish dictionaries. This study aims to introduce the Kurdish dictionaries that were studied between 1655 and 1990 and provide information about them.
This study shows that there has been research on Kurdish dictionaries in every region. The studies in Soviet Russia were carried in the Cyrillic alphabet, whereas the ones in the southern region were mostly done in the Arabic alphabet according to Sorani diaect. On the other hand, the dictionary researches in Anatolian region were done in the Latin alphabet in Kurmanji dialect. Furthermore, there are studies on Zazaki and Badinani dialects, too. Studies on Kurdish dictionaries started when Evliya Celebi made a list of Kurdish words that he collected while travelling Kurdistan region in the 17th century. Evliya Celebi put these studies in the 4th and 5th volumes of his travel book. This study provides extensive information about the dictionaries which were written between 1655 and 1990.
