The problem of disorders, associated with participation in hostilities (?war syndromes?), remains relevant for over one hundred years. The first scientific description of these diseases is known belongs to the American physician Jakob Mendes Da Costa. Analysis of Da Costa's contribution to the study of the ?war syndrome? is represented in the article.
