THE LITERARY STYLE OF JAMALZADEH AND HIS RESPONSE TO THE IRANIAN YOUNG WRITERS

Abstract

Seyyed Mohammad Ali Jamalzadeh who has provided the major contribution in short storytelling genre of Persian literature on twentieth century in Iran, has led to the emergence of a new literary genre with his cult book "Yekî Bûd Yekî Nebûd" which written in 1921. Although his style has been appreciated by many critics and researchers, there were negative opinions which had evaluated his style as the tastelessness. Unfortunately, after this work, which brought him worldwide fame, he has been unable to obtain such a success. He had believed that all kinds of scientific and artistic works should be passed to the public with simple and straightforward writing types for the development of a country in various fields. He evaluated as the key to development of which the public and the students must understand down to the finest detail of the works done in a country. In this context, he had often argued that spoken language and proverbs should be used in the written works as well. Because of this, as a pioneer, he had penned many works which stressed the importance plain text on storytelling and the short story genre. In our study, a letter correspondence will be subject which made between Jamalzadeh and young Iranians living in Paris ranging between ages 8-17. Thus, Jamalzadeh’s literary opinions as given answers to them will be discussed as a result of this correspondence. The Iranian children living in Paris who had attended to the Pierre Brossolette Academy to learn Persian, decided to create a magazine. They had written a letter to Jamalzadeh and asked him some questions on literary issues. The author had transferred his literary views through these answers.
