Abstract
The article represents the research of pragmatic properties of phraseological units in German with a gastronomic component in political journalism on material “Die Zeit”, “Der Tagesspiegel”, “Berliner Zeitung”. The article deals with the question of realization author’s intentions with the help of phraseologisms. It has been proved that the connotative meanings of phraseological units enter the process of argumentation and persuasion in the newspaper style, phraseological units turned out to realization of communicative strategies. The most important pragmatic functions of phraseological units lie in stimulating the reader’s motivation, leading his attention, concealing the information and creating metalinguistic reflections
