Abstract
The problem of history and historicity value presents a context that may give important clues in order to understand our novelist Kemal Tahir in certain ways. Kemal Tahir is certainly a versatile intellectual who has various characteristics. His two predominant characteristics are being a novelist who got his feet on the native ground and being a social philosopher. Kemal Tahir’s other merits which unites or completes these two characteristics can also be referred. For instance, his political attitude, his extraordinary interest in history and also his being a man of culture. Kemal Tahir was a novelist who thought at most in the context of history, society, art in Turkish literature and who had a sophisticated vision in these fi elds. Both his literary works and his opinion articles are the products of an intensive consciousness of history.
