Abstract

Analysis of endocrine pathology and goiter prevalence for 2002-2004 among the children and teenagers living in micro districts of Ryazan with a various level of contamination of free air was made by results of annual medical prophylactic examinations and results of the remonitoring of goiter endemia. Authentic excess of an endocrine pathology and goiter prevalence among the children and teenagers living in district with a high level of technogenic contamination was fixed. The epidemiological peculiarities of the goiter epidemic are indicative of a complicated pathogenesis of endocrinopathies and goiter among the children and teenagers living under the conditions of concurrent effects from geochemical and anthropogenic ecological factors predetermined not only by the presens of an absolute iodine insufficiency but also by the influence of other additional goitrogenic factors. It necessitates a comprehensive approach to conducting the preventive anti-goiter measures targeted not only at eliminating the iodine deficiency but also at correcting the additional goitrogenic effects existing in the region.
