Artisans and craftsmen played a very important role in the socio-economic life of Ancient India. Different categories of artisans and craftsmen, located in both rural and urban regions. They fulfilled the needs of people in daily life. The socio-economic condition of the artisans and craftsmen has always depended on the nature of their craft. It is also evident from the literature of Ancient India that the artisan class were free to change their profession. Sometimes they adopted a new profession for a short time.
