Abstract
India being agriculture based economy has a great deal to do with socio-economic background of her rural elite. In the study on legislative elite in India, P.D. Sharma emphasized that to ascertain the position of legislative elite in a society’s system of social stratification, the socio-economic characteristics of the elite can be a useful tool. At the same time, changing socio-economic characteristics of elite serves as an index to the changing distribution of power within a society.
