Abstract

Based on the analysis of historical and pedagogical sources of the middle XX − the beginning of the XX centuries has been established that the pupils’ responsibility was described as the problem of moral, ethical, national, patriotic and family education. In the prominent Ukrainian teachers’ works have been defined that the training of responsibility as personal qualities was aimed at actualization of a sense of duty to God, the humanity and the motherland. The ways of formation pupils’ responsibility have been summarized: spiritual and moral development of the child; reasonable combination of internal and external forms of school discipline (rules and responsibilities in teaching); formation of self-control and readiness to answer for ones’ actions; introduction of special subjects into the school course that deal with the native language, history, literature, which are a source of national spirit and culture and a means of forming an expression of values and ideals of the nation.
