Abstract

To study changes in blood lipid spectrum in patients with psoriasis secondary to metabolic syndrome (MS) there were examined 90 patients with uncomplicated plaque psoriasis, who were divided into 2 groups: Group I included 30 patients with psoriasis without MS, Group II included 60 patients with psoriasis and MS. MS was diagnosed according to the recommendations of the International Diabetes Federation (2005). There were determined anthropometric characteristics, parameters of lipid and carbohydrate metabolism, endogenous insulin with calculation of insulin resistance index HOMA-IR. According to the obtained results more pronounced clinical manifestations of psoriasis were observed in patients of Group II. Changes in blood lipid spectrum were characterized by an increase in the levels of blood cholesterol, triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoproteins (LDL) and a decrease in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL) levels (p< 0.05). There were direct correlations between PASI index and TG blood levels (r=+0.38; p< 0.05), LDL (r=+0.41; p< 0.05) and between HOMA-IR index and TG blood levels, LDL (r=+0.45; r=+0.48; respectively p< 0.05).?
