Abstract
Immense investments in electronics industry led to rise in vast number of consumer electronic gadgets and this proceeded to large number of battery chargers in order to operate these devices so as to make them miniature and portable. A universal charger makes possible to charge multiple devices with a single module with the help of a microcontroller, some power electronic devices like power MOSFET and power rectifier and an effective program running inside microcontroller.
Universal charger uses PWM(s) to control output voltage and current required by the consumer device(s). Consumer can select appropriate mode for charging their electronic devices which varies from 5V to charge mobile phones, cameras, etc. up to 60V to charge E-bikes with the required current including 12V to charge automobile batteries and 20V to charge laptops. Concept of universal charger is same as that of SMPS chargers or step-down D.C. choppers with few reformations in their design for accurate and precise output values.
