Abstract
Asclepiades (Greek: ?σκληπιάδης; c. 124 or 129 ? 40 BC), sometimes called Asclepiades of Bithynia or Asclepiades of Prusias, was a physician born at Prusias in Bithynia (currently Konuralp) in Asia Minor and flourished at Rome. He established medicine near the end of the 2nd century BC. Cito tuto jucunde meaning to treat his patients "swiftly, safely, and sweetly" was a motto that he followed. Digestion was a primary factor in Asclepiades' drug theory. Asclepiades used music therapy to treat mentally ill patients in order to maintain "psychogenic equilibrium". Asclepiades advocated humane treatment of mental disorders and founded his medical practice on a modification of the atomic or corpuscular theory, therefore Asclepiades is considered to be a pioneer physician in psychotherapy, physical therapy and molecular medicine. It was accepted as Hippocrates of Kos, the Father of Clinical Medicine, and also Asclepiades of Bithynia was accepted as the Father of Molecular Medicine. Herein, you are going to read a shortly prepared review to drive the attention of our physicians to the cultural heritage of Anatolia especially in Konuralp region and to the interesting sides of medical history.
