Abstract
This article analyses the appeal to the forest image in Ivan Shmelyov's story "Under the sky" and Boris Pasternak's novel "Doctor Zhivago". Both authors focus on Christian ideas in their works and constantly refer to the theme of nature. The image of forest in this context is interpreted through the biblical scripture (both the Old and New Testaments), and becomes the key to understanding the spiritual aspirations of the characters.
