Abstract

Last years, Industrial engines require higher power (megawatt range) equipment, it is difficult to connect a semiconductor switch directly to high voltage grids, and multilevel inverters have developed as a solution. This topology is composed of basic H-bridge current source inverter working as the primary inverter which generates many levels of current waveform in conjunction with inductor cells (inductor cells connected in parallel as secondary circuits). Each inductor cell is consisting of four switches with an inductor between the cell circuits. The advantage of inductor cells is generating the middle level of the multilevel current waveform without any external dc-power sources. A simple proportional integral controller is utilized to control the middle level currents of the output waveform. A five, nine and seventeen level PWM inverter configuration, with chopper based dc-current sources. This topology useful for high power applications and a reduction of the harmonics content
