Abstract
Use of English as a service course is compulsory for all students in tertiary institutions in Nigeria. This is traceable to the fact that lectures, tutorials and practical are carried out in English Language. Examinations are also written in English. Reading comprehension, summarising, note-taking and examination are some of the most difficult task for Nigerian students. This paper therefore examines the pertinent issues in the use of English programme and it’s relevance to Nigerian education system.
