Abstract

The article deals with the concept of "innovative activity of the University". The latter is aimed at updating educational products and services, forms and learning technologies at different stages of the innovation process (from the appearance of an idea or a new technology to its market sales) in education, research and postgraduate professional education that provides the necessary economic and (or) social benefit. The necessity to distinguish between "educational innovations" and "innovations in education" is well-proven. Educational innovations include: 1) the pedagogical innovations that involve changing the style of teaching and the organization of the educational process, and 2) scientific and methodical innovations ? updating content curricula and teaching materials in accordance with the best domestic and foreign counterparts, introducing innovative courses, and 3) the educational and technological innovations related to the use of new or improved educational technology training. Educational innovations are the essence of innovative education. Innovations in education are a broader concept than educational innovation. They absorb: 1) scientific and technological innovations as a result of scientific research and development that have the form of intellectual property and transferred for implementation and application in production. The main subject of scientific and technological innovations is entrepreneurial universities, and 2) infrastructural innovations ? the creation of innovation-active university departments (centers, institutes, laboratories), which would provide management of innovation projects, transfer of technologies and intellectual property, forming a network of small high-tech business enterprises, high-tech clusters of the real sector of economy and others, and 3) economic innovations, most of which relate to diversify sources of funding universities, and 4) social innovations aimed at social support for students and university teachers, creating a safe learning environment and extracurricular activities of students, forming of socially responsible university, and 5) legal innovations related of the autonomy of the university, elaboration of proposals for improving education legislation. Implementation of innovations in university activities should be carried out at the strategic and operational levels. However, it requires innovations in the process of managing the university.
