Abstract

In Turkish prepositions are words that do not have a meaning when used on their own but they embody meaning and function when collocated with other words. Prepositions are also considered auxiliary words. New Uighur Turkish is a preposition-rich language. One of these prepositions is the “-kin” preposition. In the Chagatai Turkish era, the “kin” preposition takes the form of “erki”. Following the question word “mu”, it adds the meanings of doubt and hesitation to the sentence. However, it is observed that in some sentences it also adds other meanings than doubt and hesitation. This study aims to explore these other meanings the “kin” proposition adds to a sentence.
