Abstract

The object of the present work is to investigate the effect of rapid cooling from melt on structure ,electrical and mechanical properties of Sn-38%Pb , Sn-38%Pb -6%Sb , Sn-38%Pb -6%Sb-0.5%Ca , Sn-38%Pb -6%Sb -1%Ca , Sn-38%Pb -6%Sb -1.5%Ca , Sn-38%Pb -6%Sb -2%Ca , Sn-38%Pb -6%Sb -2.5%Ca (in wt%) melt spun ribbons. For this purpose the structure, resistivity, elastic moduli, Debye temperature and hardness tests were examined by x-ray diffraction, double bridge circuit, dynamic resonance technique, and Vickers micro-hardness tester respectively. It is found that by addition of antimony to eutectic Sn-Pb matrix, the electrical and mechanical properties increased. Also, calcium minor addition to the ternary Sn-Pb-Sb melt-spun alloy leads to increases in electrical properties to highest value at Sn-38%Pb-6%Sb-2.5%Ca.
