Assessing of nutritional status of students in Kurdistan University of Medical Sciences using anthropometric indices in 2014-2015

Abstract
Background and Aim: Nutrition is one of the fundamental factors affecting the health of all people. So that nutritional deficiencies are considered as the most important global problems. Due to its importance in the field of health , this study aimed to assess the nutritional status of Kurdistan University of Medical Sciences using anthropometric indices was conducted in the academic year 2014-2015 . Material and Methods: This cross-sectional on 450 students of Kurdistan University of Medical Sciences in 2015 was . Inventory and instruments for measuring weight, height , waist and arm circumference was used . Data prepared using SPSS version 21 were analyzed . Results: The study showed that 2.9% of students (13 people ) were obese and 14.9 percent (67 people) are overweight . 6.8 percent (31 people ) had abdominal obesity . MUAC measurements showed that 3.5 percent of boys (7 people) and 12.4 percent of girls ( 31 people) has an important loss of underweight and malnutrition . Significant relationship was observed between BMI and MUAC sex (P<0/05). Conclusion : The results indicate that cases of obesity and malnutrition among students respectively. Therefore, proper nutrition and lifestyle programs recommended.
