Abstract
By the example of the first prosaic cycle of Vladimir Dal this article contemplates the problem of searching for the original principles of the national culture. The author of "The First Five" solves this problem by using thematic antinomies, friend ? foe, local ? overseas, Russian ? non-Russian.
