Abstract
Abstract: Transmission of infection to recipients can be there though blood transfusions. This is an important mode of infection. The aim of study was to assess the prevalence of such type of infections among blood donors. The retrospective study was conducted during January 2008 to December 2011 Blood Bank, MIMSR Medical College, Latur. Donors were screened for seroprevalence of HIV, HBV, HCV & Syphillis. Total 1601 donors were tested. Out of which 1553 donors were voluntary (97%) and 48 were of replacement (3%). seroprevalence for HIV was 0.46% on average. Few volunteers were positive for HIV and HBV. This may be due to big blood donation camps arranged in respect of leaders. The seroprevalence of HBV (2.68%), HCV (0.25%) and syphilis (0%) was observed.
