Abstract
Mitral valve masses are an important cause of ischemic stroke in young individuals. The differential diagnosis for valvular cardiac mass includes infective endocarditis, sterile endocarditis and primary cardiac tumors. Given the high risk of recurrent ischemic events with mitral valve pathology, prompt identification and treatment is necessary in order to minimize significant longterm neurological sequelae. Here we present the case of a 28 year-old woman with a past medical history of mitral valve myxoma status-post surgical resection found to have a new mitral valve mass of unclear etiology upon recurrent bilateral ischemic stroke.
