Abstract
Abstract The objective of this research paper is to develop a mathematical model to determine when to perform route optimization. Link cost and signaling cost functions are introduced to capture the trade-off. To find a cost-efficient scheme for route optimization that minimizes the total cost function defined as the sum of the link and signaling cost functions. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme significantly reduces the signaling costs caused by IETF RO and provides the lowest total costs.
