Abstract

Scientific and practical interest to the problem of development and formation of self-concept and self-image is determined by global changes in society, environment and culture that demand from individuals to adapt to the changes. Being an important instrument of communicating of individual self to the world, self-image develops through the whole life under the impact of different social and environmental factors. In this view it is important to understand the nature of self-image and self-concept, how do they relate and influence each other. Psychology of self-concept and self-image most closely helps to understand the individual perception of the own experience and the level of inner harmony and relative consistency of personal behavior. In this paper we consider relationships between Self-image, and Self-concept and approaches to understanding Self-image and Self-concept in traditional and modern psychological theories.
