Abstract

The article deals with the disclosing the functions the epithets with positive connotation fulfill in the texts that have grave, tragic and even full of malevolence storylines created by two outstanding authors ? Jeffrey Archer and Roald Dahl. The epithets reinforce the pragmatic potential of the fictional discourse by abovemen- tioned authors making the reader go through the juxtaposition of the unexpected and unpredictable language twists in the stories ? positive determiners help to make the described sullen atmosphere even more wretched. Thus, the epithets contribute to the whole emotive and evaluative perspective of the discourse
