Abstract
Diverticuli can cause abdominal symptoms or detected on screening colonoscopy. Colonic polyps may be found concomitantly. Polyps found during colonoscopy in patients with colonic diverticular disease are removed by endoscopic polypectomy. This procedure is very safe and associated with a very low incidence of perforation. Inverted colonic diverticulum can be mistaken as a polyp and if a polypectomy is done the risk of perforation is high. This is a rare occurrence with no cases reported from India. Awareness of this problem is important due to the high risk of perforation of inverted diverticulum masquerading as a polyp. The present report describes a 53- year-old man who underwent a colonoscopy for constipation. Colonoscopy revealed a large pedunculated polyp that was recognized as an inverted colonic diverticulum before endoscopic polypectomy.
