Abstract
The article deals with the peculiarities of the processes of cleaning water from oil products using filter medium obtained by coating with carbon. The methods for producing hydrophobic materials through pyrolysis reaction are presented. By an experiment the retaining property of oil products and buoyancy of hydrophobic materials are defined. The main purpose of this study is the attempt to develop the material for continuous oil skimming from the water surface. To achieve the purpose, the following tasks have been formulated: selection of a low-price low-specifc-gravity porous material as a starting substance; modification of the material surface for its hydrophobization.
