Abstract
Most of today's access control and time attendance systems are based on radio frequency identification (RFID). These systems use RFID readers, Ethernet networking technology and the TCP/IP protocol for communication with the central server. A database, which is located on the central server, contains information about all users and their access levels. Users' authentication is done by using contactless RFID cards. In the paper, the principles of RFID technology and its most common applications are described, and so is the hardware used for the device construction. Finally, the developed web application for data acquisition and processing and system administration is presented. This application is made for classroom and laboratory access control, and for logging the time attendance of students and teachers. The device is based on the Arduino Uno platform, and the programming language PHP and a MySQL database were used in the making of the application.
