Abstract

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the different plant extracts viz. jatropha (Jatropha curcas), aak (Calotropis gigantea), and neem (Azadirachta indica) as root dip treatment at 20 and 40 per cent concentration of each in order to find out the best plant extracts with their concentration for the management of root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita on Chilli (Capsicum frutescens L.). Associate check (carbosulfan 25 EC @ 1%) and untreated check were also maintained for comparison. Results showed that these plant extracts were found better over untreated check (control) in improving plant growth characters and reducing nematode reproduction on chilli. Among all the treatments application of Neem leaves at 40% conc. found most effective in improving shoot length, shoot weight, root length and root weight and reducing galls per plant, No. of eggmasses per plant, No. of eggs per eggmass, nematode population per 100cc soil and total population of M. incognita, followed by Aak leaves at 40% conc. and Jatropha leaves at 40% conc.
