Abstract

The article is devoted to the problems of development of Ukrainian culture in conditions of Ukrainian revolution of 1917 – 1920-ies. Special attention is given to perception of personality and creative work of Taras Shevchenko, the poet. The usage of Kobzar's image by different political forces in conditions of revolutionary period of 1917 – 1920-ies on the territory of Ukraine was analyzed. The fact of popularity of Taras Shevchenko's image among adherets of different conceptions of Ukrainian sovereignity and also their activities for keeping memory about him and grandeuring of his name was ascertained. T. Shevchenko popularity as a symbol of Ukrainian national idea was so great that even Russian Bolsheviks in 1919–1920-ies had to change their attitude to the poet's personality. Hetmanat was the most contradictory among three forms of Ukrainian sovereignity. This fact can be explained by the influence of different groups:proukrainian and prorussians on P. Skoropadsky. The process of political separation of Shevchenko - the Ukrainian from Shevchenko - the revolutionary starts just during revolution of 1917–1920-ies and image of poet the revolutionary instead of prophet of Ukrainian national renaissance is being formed.
