Abstract

Development and activity of libraries are closely connected with publishing houses and book shops which are providers of book production and centers of literature distribution as well. Provincial Board printing offices and local printing houses played an important part in cultural and educational space. In the second half of the 19th – the beginning of the 20th century "Commemorative Books and Address Calendars" became a valuable source. They were edited by secretaries of Statistical Committees. According their structure, commemorative books can be attributed to address calendars, administrative references, statistical reports and province reviews which represented local interests. They have bibliographic value because they were printed in a few copies. "Katerinoslav Address Calendar for 1917" has special scientific value because it specialized in history of the Province. Publishing centers of L. I. Satanovsky, M. S. Kopylova, O. G. Avchinnikov, L. M. Rotenberg played an important part in distribution of book output in Katerinoslav Province. Books of Katerinoslav publishing houses and printing offices were popular and had high artistic book design. Katerinoslav publishers paid special attention to Ukrainian fiction and Ukrainian authors. Publishing houses cooperated with book shops which spread knowledge on history, culture and literature. A significant contribution into librarianship of the Province was made by book shops of Katerinoslav woman leaders S. V. Egorova, M. K. Lozinska and V. E. Zhuravska.
