Abstract

Introduction. Increasing interest in the bitumen emulsion materials in Iraq is caused by the necessity of road networks development. So, to reach this goal, there is the need to choose which material is suitable for construction of road from this mix. In this paper, the researcher explains the specification of materials (gravel, sand, recycle asphalt and cationic-active bitumen emulsion) testing them by means of X-ray and characteristics of equipment also, the method of calculation percentage of new gravel. The results of X-ray analysis determined the mineralogical composition of samples (sand, gravel, recycle asphalt and cationic-active bitumen emulsion) used to repair Iraqi roads, this analysis shows the percentage of mix materials. Conclusions: the results of X-ray phase analysis gave specification of materials used to repair and construct Iraqi roads with the low traffic density. The optimum mix consists of cationicactive bitumen emulsion, asphalt granulate (recycle asphalt) with the addition of crushed stone mark 1400 acidic nature from local materials, and to improve the quality of the pavement mix the specific percentage of sand has to be added, the mix materials quantity should be calculated by mathematical formula.
