Abstract

The article analyzes the artistic features of E. Rostand's play "The Last Night of Don Juan". The au- thor of the article concludes that in Rostand's last play symbolist aesthetics prevail, which indicates rejection of the principles of neo-romantics by the playwright. In this play the author refuses Don Juan's traditional charac- ter, endowing him with some features of Neo-romantic heroes. The author underlines the punishment Don Juan is sentenced to. Rostand preserved a number of principles peculiar to Neo-Romanticism, in particular, the genre of drama in verse, but the author of the article believes that in the play "The Last Night of Don Juan" Rostand refuses the concept of Neo-Romanticism
