Abstract

Changes in consumption patterns, due to the environmental impacts, have led companies to increase their concern and implement changes in their production process. One way to communicate these changes to consumers is through the adoption of green labels. However, due to the commercial differential of the product with labels, there are several self-declared appearing, presented by companies that do not undergo a careful evaluation of their processes or products. This type of green label application without an external guarantee to the company can confuse the consumers, in addition to diminishing the confidence of them in the information available. This research aimed to present the point of view and knowledge of companies - based on the response of their representatives - with regard to greenlabels. In this sense, an online based questionnaire was developed, sent to 143 manufacturers - who declare themselves green - from which 52 returns were obtained. The answers obtained demonstrate that companies are seeking to adapt to this new demand for products with less environmental impact. However, the adoption of labels, evaluated by independent institutions, is still very small, and this may be the result of a possible misunderstanding of existing programs or the high investment required for submission to labeling.
