Abstract

Poljes are undoubtedly the largest of the karstic dissolution landforms. Detecting the poljes, which usually correspond to a plain, is not as simple as it seems. In fact, it is not easy to say polje at one area, but the evidence needs to be put forward. The experience of geomorphologists in the field, in other words the experience of reading and interpreting the land, is one of great importance. Despite the fact that there are a lot of studies on poljes in our country, unfortunately it is too late to classify them. The classification of Poljes which constitutes the subject of this research is important. The purpose of the study is to determine the geomorphological characteristics of Kestelce Polje located in the west of Kilis province center. Karstification and tectonism have been very effective in the formation of poljes. It is the presence of ophiolites that limit the karstification of the carbonate and calcareous rocks that are effective in the development of karstification. Thus, it is possible to say that Kestelce Polyester is a "structural" polygene character. The Hasanke Stream, which is the side branch of the Afrin Stream which runs the polje, and the side branches show a drainage system with definite dendritic character. It is possible to say that polje is an open-basin character and that it is a polje that has completely completed the development of polyenes and is now being broken down. As a result, it has been seen that the Kestelce Polje has been active since Middle Miocene and the effect of the tectonic movements and karstification have been decreasing. When we look at Kestelce Polje and its vicinity with its main lines; The east corresponds to a puddle between the plateau areas and the high mountainous areas that house the plateau areas at various levels on the western edge. Agriculture and animal husbandry activities are also affecting the study area. Key Words: Poljes, Classification of Poljes, Types of Poljes, Kestelce Polje, Structural Polje, Karst Platue, Kilis Province
