Abstract

This paper deals with three phase distribution system and power quality problems in it. Elimination of power quality problems are analysed by using a unified power quality conditioner with the help of a new methodology called IARC control. Due the intensive use of power converters and other non-linear loads in industry and by consumers, it can be observed an increasing deterioration of the power systems voltage and current waveforms. The presence of harmonics in the power lines results in greater power losses in distribution, interference problems in communication systems and, sometimes, in operation failures of electronic equipments. Unified power quality conditioner is one of the most versatile custom power device, which is used to compensate current and voltage quality problems of sensitive loads. The UPQC consists of the series and shunt converter having a common dc link. The series converter mitigates voltage related problems from the supply side and shunt converter eliminates current harmonics from the non-linear load side. In this simulation we observe the power quality problems such as unbalanced voltage and current, harmonics by connecting non linear load to 3P4W system. A new control strategy IARC control is applied for design the shunt APF. The proposed system is tested through MATLAB/SIMULINK.
