Abstract

The article considers the importance of the issue of forming household finances as an integral part of the financial system of the state. The current state and trends of changes in the structure of household consumption in Ukraine and the dynamics of savings and deposits of households in Ukraine for the period 2010-2017 has been analyzed. It is concluded that starting from 2014 savings and deposits of households are spent on consumption. Household consumption expenditure is increasing and reaching a level of 93.0% of the total aggregate expenditures. During the investigated period (2010-2017), consumer expenditures on utilities services increased significantly (73.91%). There is an increasing number of households who refuse to buy food, clothing, footwear and household services due to lack of funds. This is a negative trend. It is noted that the tendency of household expenditures to increase consumption decreases their value as an investment resource for the development of the country's economy. On the basis of the analysis, it was concluded that during the period of 2007-2017 the household welfare level is decreasing and the poverty of the population in Ukraine is increasing. It is noted that given the low level of household savings in Ukraine, it is inappropriate to consider them as an investment potential of the country's economy. It is noted that there is a probability of outflow of households with the highest level of security (10 deciles) abroad owing to the availability of investment products and insufficient protection of investors' capital within the country. The ability to use Internet technology when purchasing investment products abroad makes this process more affordable for domestic households. This leads to a negative trend of outflow of capital abroad. Conducting economic reforms within the country and increasing the attractiveness of investing within the country will contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of Ukraine's economy.
