Abstract
Analysis of the influence of modern information and communication technologies on the political sphere of society is carried out. Manifestations of certain characteristics of the information society in the evolution of socio-political relations both within modern countries and in the global political space are highlighted. The attention is given to significant extension of the possibilities and the range of application of information-manipulative technologies that become an instrument of internal political struggle and an effective means of external information expansion. It is concluded that the newest technologies have become a means of building a «new» totalitarianism, according to which a person not only falls under full control, but also is exposed to much more effective means of mass consciousness control. The importance of the creating in Ukraine a system of effective counteraction to external information expansion is noted.
