Abstract

22 year old male admitted with complaints of swelling in left upper part of neck of 2 months duration. The patient had history of similar swellings at 14 and 21 years of age for which he underwent surgery. Histopathology reports had shown it to be cystic hygroma. Now, the patient had a soft, compressible, fluctuant, brilliantly transillumant swelling of size 4 x 3cm in the left upper part of neck. MRI taken showed a irregular multiloculated lesion in left suprahyoid and infrahyoid region with predominant involvement of carotid and prevertebral space. The previous scar was also present in the same site. The tumor was operated and excised in toto and postoperative histopathology reports confirmed it as cystic hygroma. Adult presentation of cystic hygroma is rare. Stil rare and interesting is a case of recurrent cystic hygroma in a adult.
