Early stages of the development of Shevchenko’s studies in the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine

The aim of the paper is a scientific reconstruction of the processes of the formation of Shevchenko’s studies at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in the first years of its activity (1918-1925). Methodology of the study consists in the application of historical, comparative methods, as well as historiographic analysis, bibliographic heuristics. The scientific novelty of the work consists in systematization of a multidimensional array of archival documents and historiographic publications as a source of the history of science and integrated coverage of the processes of development of Shevchenko science as an academic scientific school and commemorative activity at the NAS of Ukraine during this period. Conclusions. The study of the main scientific and organizational activities of the NAS of Ukraine on the study of the creative heritage of T. Shevchenko makes it possible to eliminate gaps in the study of this area in the history of Ukrainian academic science, as well as recreate the structure and personal composition of the institutes of the Academy of Sciences, where the biography and works of T. Shevchenko were studied. The activities of humanitarian institutions of the Academy of Sciences in those years took place in difficult conditions of changing the socio-economic structure of the state, the almost complete absence of the material base of research and publishing. The peculiarities of the scientific work were the collective work in the commissions on the publication of researches of T. Shevchenko in ten volumes, individual studies of scientists, the formation of historical and cultural collections, the participation of scientists in the founding of memorial institutions, as well as honouring T. Shevchenko memory at all-academic events and organization of scientific meetings of the Academy Scientific Societies to disseminate information about the life and activities of the classic among the public.
