Numerical Simulation of CMT Butt Weld of AA 6061-T6 and AA 6082-T6 using ANSYS

Abstract

This research paper focuses on temperature field and residual stresses of the butt welding of AA 6061-T6 and AA 6082-T6 with an cold metal transfer, envisage to predict the heat distribution with the help of the ANSYS workbench 18.1 ( finite element analysis software) in which a transient thermal analysis & a static structural analysis is done. At the interface of the samples, a Guassian heat source was deposited periodically. The broader and softer heat affected zone is formed during welding due to excessive heat distribution, which will drastically decreases the joint strength as the failure rate increases. Due to inappropriate use of the techniques of the conventional welding processes on heat supply by the existing welding processes, it becomes challenging to manage HAZ. CMT welding is a prominent process of welding to overcome these types of problems by joining these metal alloys which was simulated by ANSYS and on comparison, it will lead to satisfactory result.
