Abstract

Friction stir spot welding (FSSW) process is creating a great impact during modern days especially in joining of aluminium alloys for different aerospace to industrial applications. To find different optimal parameters effecting welding joint, tool geometry, and surface texture of work piece and heat distribution in the process, it is necessary to know about the process selectionfor joining of the metals. As the FSSW depends on above said parameters so as to obtain a proper response to the welding joint other specifics such asthe friction stirring machine used, the tool dimensions, the base material, the preparation of the plates, the welding method adopted, the process used to prepare the specimens for processing, the testing equipment and the recording of the answers are to be addressed. To get the desired objectives a thorough procedure is to be followed with the experimental work.Experimentation is carried out on AA6062 and ST1020 with three parameters viz tool speed, dwelltime and plunge depth and three levels to find optimum level. Lager the better is considered for choosing the optimum value for welding strength. The result obtained shows that dwell time is the parameter which contributes major in the welding later the Tool speed
