Abstract

In a telecommunications network, fault management refers to a set of functions that detects isolates and corrects network malfunctions. The system examines error logs, accepts and acts on error detection notifications, traces and identifies faults, and carries out a sequence of diagnostic tests. Faults result from malfunctions or events that interfere with, degrade or obstruct service delivery. Examples of faults include hardware failure, connectivity loss or port status change. Once a fault is detected, the management platform notifies the administrator (and any additional authorized or designated parties) using an alarm or alert. These notifications can be viewed in the fault management system's GUI The fault management is the main component of any network management system. The paper tells about how to deal with the faults before reporting or updating it to the network management system. The concept is used to suppress the faults of similar type before reaching it to the network management system. The network management system is the real time monitor module of all faults management. Where all the faults can be viewed in one screen of the network management system. Faults can be raised of similar or different types of problems.
