Abstract

Makber poetry has become a turning point in Turkish literature in terms of the processing of death. Makber, published by Abdulhak Hâmid with a long foreword, deals with the dilemmas of human death and its aftermath. Unlike Hâmid, who refers to the difficulty of understanding death and its aftermath, Mehmet Âkif brings out a living history from a still and dull grave in his poem. In this respect, the Mezarlık tries to break the timidity of man against death and beyond, unlike Makber. Makber adds a philosophical depth to death. However, this depth does not alleviate anxiety and fear of death, it increases it further. The Mezarlık aesthetizes death on the background of the other world. In this background, Mezarlık has a positive connotation with all its components. In our study, the discourses about death and beyond will be examined in the axis of Abdulhak Hâmid's Makber and Mehmet Akif's Mezarlık poems. Thus, it will be revealed how the starting points of the poets shape the perception of death.
